"People thought I had gone mad"
The History Behind the Road
"People thought I had gone mad when I started road construction in 1934. Some were even looking forward to seeing me fail. They said they would gild the first car that made it up to Juvasshytta, but they didn’t keep their promise."
As early as 1934, Knut K. Vole began building a road up to Juvasshytta.
With a shovel, pickaxe, and wheelbarrow, he set to work.
To make a long story short, a road was eventually built from Raubergstulen to Juvasshytta.
Today, we have a paved road all the way to the entrance.
Galdhøpiggvegen is open for traffic during Juvasshytta’s season. The road is privately owned and operated.
Starting elevation: 550 meters above sea level
Final elevation: 1840 meters above sea level
